New Poll, Your Biggest Issue with the BC
This poll has actually been up a few days and I’m happy to see people have been voting. You may have noticed the up tick in posts and commentary on the various issues surrounding the Breeders’ Cup so why not vote on it?
Need some refreshers on the issues? There’s Crist’s column on Ladies Day, the TBA point/counter point on Ladies Day (with interesting ongoing comments), John’s excellent recent post “What’s in a Name” and Kennedy’s observations about various inconsistencies, just to name a few.
Is your biggest complaint that there’s two days instead of one? Is Ladies Day not your cup of tea or are you just bothered by the name Ladies Classic (and hey, why didn’t the change the Juvenile and Turf Fillies too? Little Ladies, Little Ladies Turf and Ladies Turf)? Is running the championship on a new surface your biggest complaint or do you just wish they’d use standard saddle cloths to help a horse player out? And for the indecisive and/or equally bothered, there’s always All of the Above.
In our last poll Zenyatta was leading prior to the races but afterwards Curlin started to pull ahead. I thought Zenyatta’s win was more impressive but no doubt some of you were swayed by the record breaking earnings, or was it the repeat of the JCGC?
The voting worked out to be 37 for Curlin, 25 for Zenyatta and 20 for Big Brown. As always, thanks for voting!

That is my real name, and you, madam, are clueless, in ways I wouldn’t begin to know how to explain — none, I feel certain, lost on the “BC exec” with whom you “spoke,” and doubtless was paying you lip service — especially if he read your 48-page monument to insipidity. That would be the one that recommended 6 new VPs for the NTRA (!!!!) and ended in BIG, BOLD print, “Our sport doesn’t need a central ruling body …” (or moronity to that effect), mindful that every other major sport that has gone to a Commissioner has flourished beyond its wildest dreams; and that the only two that haven’t — ours and tennis — are drowning. (Seriously, was there no one on that entire Committee who knew even that much about the business of sport? Where did Alex find you people?)
None of which scratches the surface of ignorance quite like announcing to the entire racing world that the best way we — WE, the fans … the players … the lifeblood of the sport — can get the already pathologically independent, self-absorbed pricks at the Breeders’ Cup Committee “to listen to their rapidly dwindling customers” is by … drum roll, maestro … BOYCOTTING THE EVENT!
“Dana … darling … there’s a moth in my clothes closet.”
“Wait, honey, I’ll get the gas can and blow torch!”
Truly, utterly, staggeringly idiotic.
The problem with racing isn’t greed. It’s ignorance. Your readers/commenters Jason and John couldn’t be more ignorant, nor more proud to announce it to the world. Anyone who still doesn’t get it that synthetic surfaces are here to stay, and is still crying like a little girl because of his a) lack of work ethic; b) mental incapacity; or c) both; that prevents him from absorbing their complexities, is a flaming retard. And who among us with an IQ above 60 doesn’t know that by rote? So what do you do? You try to post one as a lead story, complement them both on their acuity, and add “more on that later!”
I haven’t the vocabulary to do justice to such witlessness.
And, frankly, I could care less the extent to which your feathers might be ruffled by my comments. There are few self-inflicted human defects for which I have less patience than ignorance, particularly when such ignorance casts its shadow on my lifelong avocation already in dire straits, and already overflowing with nitwits.
Finally, remember this when you’re penning the much anticipated “more on that later, piece.” NO ONE holds the BC Committee more in contempt than I, yet I thought the event was spectacular, and can’t even fathom how much more spectacular the racing will be next year when O’Brien, De Kock, Sheikh MoMo, et al bring over their entire strings.
Seriously, if you’re incapable of figuring-out at least that much about the sport on your own, here’s a little tip: lose the keyboard!
The Old Hozer
Ah Theo, thanks for joining us in your real name! I noticed your rantings against the recommendations of the NTRA committee but didn’t pay too close attention to them.
As a PH.D and someone who professes to be old, you certainly must have been around the block enough to know that anything done in a group doesn’t 100% represent the opinions of all the members of the group. I also happen to disagree with the sentiment you point out about the sport needing a central ruling body. That was penned by the group’s lead, Patrick Patten of Handride, I suggest you take that issue up with him. I am, however, willing to give the NTRA Safety & Integrity Alliance a shot before I call everyone a flaming retard. Also, we only suggested 1 VP position, not 6… I’ll give you that it could have read more clearly but other people seemed to get it.
At the risk of exacerbating your need to rant without offering any plausible solutions or attempt at dialog, might I suggest that you give me a chance to write my post before you attack me for what you think I’m going to write. For all you know I may not agree with them. In fact, the reason I wanted to use Jason’s comment as a guest post is because they’re points I’d never make. I think they’re interesting and I agree with some of them but not all.
Why don’t you start a blog if you have so much to say and are so concerned about all the nitwits trying to ruin your life long avocation. Instead of attacking everyone who’s willing to put themselves and their ideas out there, share your genius with the rest of world!
