Literally. I was going to write a “holiday gift idea” post tonight a la Geno but puttering around the internet got the best of me. During this time, I had the fortune to find a stellar flickr set entitled ‘”Champions” - From the DRF Book‘ by Festin2008.
Serendipitous because Ernie had just pointed this book out to me earlier in the week, along with the American Racing Manuals (25 lbs of them showed up on my door step today!).
The photo set is incredible. Many greats from the late 80 and 90s including Azeri, Ashado, Alysheba, Bayakoa, Speightstown, Groovy, Housebuster, Easy Goer, Ghost Zapper, Personal Ensign and more.

Hey Dana, thanks for the link! I saw Champions for $35 in an email from DRF Press yesterday (i think that’s a pretty good deal). Looking forward to your gift ideas! I got a nice Adam C shot for one of my pals of Curlin/Rags stretch duel in the 07 Belmont at Exclusively Equine. Have a great holiday!
Thanks for posting the photos from my flickr web site. I have a lot more old photos to put on the site. The book “Champions” from DRF Press is a great book to have.
Wow — kind of suprising to see such avid endorsement of copyright infringement. Personally, I find it kind of irritating that Festin2008 doesn’t bother to cite the original photographers in the photo descriptions, doesn’t bother to link to the book, and gets hit love for someone else’s work.

Walter - you’re welcome, and looking forward to seeing more of your stuff! Are these photos yours or scanned from the DRF book? I was assuming they’re yours.
Anon - I’ve never seen the Champions book so I am unaware if these photos are scanned from the book or if Festin2008/Walter took them himself. There are recent racing photos in his flickr stream so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think he could have taken them (given that I’ve never seen the book and don’t have a copy here in front of me to compare). No real need for the snippy attitude either, Anonymous.
All of the photos that are on my flickr site are photos that I have taken over the past 35 years of doing photographs. Most of them were shot on film so I scanned them from my photos or from negatives. I would never post photos that are not mine.

I also believe Mr. or Miss snippy anonymous commenter owes you an apology for making such an accusation based on an assumption when they simply could have aired their concern by asking.
To the anonymous guy…. I think you owe an apology to Festin. They are photos of the horses that are Eclipse Champions, which the Daily Racing Form provides the past performances for in their book “Champions”. These photos are a collection of Festin’s personal work of Eclipse Award winners. With that said I do like the fact that some one (anonymous) is standing up for the photographer’s work but it was misguided in this case.
