New Poll, Do You Have a Derby Horse Yet?

I Want Revenge’s seemingly disastrous start in the Wood (Sarah K. Andrew)
With just under 3 weeks left and most of the major preps out of the way, it seems like one should have their Derby horse picked out by now. However, I haven’t really seen a lot, if any, of people bangin’ the Derby drum for one horse or another.
I think this sentiment shared by Kevin of Colin’s Ghost over at the horse player teen party chat line (Twitter) sums it up:
Really looking forward to this years Derby. No clear favorite - should be a good one.
As for my Derby pick, I agree with o_crunk when he says the winner is likely to come from Friesan Fire, Quality Road or I Want Revenge. Three colts I like a lot, have rated 1-2-3 over at PDI and just like last week, I’m not willing to pick any of them as “the one” just yet.
After this weekend though I think Papa Clem looks he might have a shot too after showing off a new trick (sitting further off the pace) and definitely stepping up his game. While I loved General Quarters in the Blue Grass, I think he might do his best running over the fake stuff, although he’s no slouch on the dirt and if he looks anything like he did in the parade for the Bluegrass, look out!
And then there’s Dunkirk and PoTN… I’m with Kevin on this one too when he hopes they take a ton of money!
But who what do you think, do you have your Derby date picked out yet?

Friesian Fire. We’ll see, but if he wins the Derby and goes for a TC try, I’ll be glad he had a 7 week layoff!
If you put a gun to my head and made me pick, I’d pick Freisan Fire too. In fact, he’ll probably end up being my pick, but I really like IWR & QR too… ultimately I would be happy to have any of them as my pick.
It’s the first year (of my 3) where I haven’t been focused on one (Hard Spun, Pyro).
Thanks for the shout out!
My heart is pulling for Firesian Fire and General Quarters.
My head thinks I Want Revenge.
Now that all the preps are over — I am officially psyched for the 09 Derby!
I’m still playing the field…flirting with a few, but unable to commit at this point…how long do I have to make up my mind?
Teresa- Stallions have feelings too, you know.
Dana-Between you and me. Papa Clem-Chocolate Candy exacta box. Book it!!!!
If Quality Road didn’t have that quarter crack, he’d be right up there; as it is, I’m on the fence about him. Friesan Fire, Papa Clem, Chocolate Candy and General Quarters are all on my shortlist, and there’s no denying I Want Revenge looks tough…so no, no decision!
I’m backing Friesan Fire…
Papa Clem is the measuring stick for this year’s derby and I think we see a battle between POTN and Friesan Fire to the wire.
Square Eddie is still out there as well. We’ll see how he does on Saturday at Keeneland. Fingers crossed for a canadian connection!
Cheers
Keith
I am on Dunkirk and I hope Gomez sticks with PotN so us Dunkirk backers get a better price on the $3.7 million purchase. I am hoping Prado picks up the mount though so I guess he will get his fair share of money too.
I am very excited to see who Coa and Gomez choose because they have the two most difficult decisions in terms of riding and who in fact picks up the mounts not choosen.
I am thinking Coa chooses Musket Man and Gomez chooses PotN.

heheheh.
WG: typical double standard. Stallions get 150 a year–I have a hard time settling down and get a hard time about it?
Sheesh.
Teresa: I just think they are misunderstood. It’s a job for them; I don’t think they enjoy it. All we see is the glamor and the flash. They have to service up to three fillies a day, get bathed in between, all the hay, oats and mash they could want and then are allowed to cavort in their own paddock or a warm stall should the weather prove inclement. It’s not all it’s crac…
Wait, I forgot where I was going with this.
