Thanks Tale of Ekati

Tale of Ekati discussing his retirement with Funny Cide (Capitol149)
I thought I might take a moment amidst all the excitement and speculation about the Preakness field to thank Tale of Ekati. I had a suspicion that he might be retired after the Carter.
Tale of Ekati was one of those oddly inconsistent horses that had many stumped and no doubt burned a lot of money. Just when everyone (except me) had written him off, he won the Wood. Just when even everyone (except me) thought he couldn’t be competitive cutting back, he won the Jerome. I cashed very nicely both times both and for that, I thank him!
His retirement got a tiny little mention during what has been a crazy news week, so I wanted to make sure he didn’t go unnoticed. He was as versatile as he was inconsistent, and I for one (or is that won?), will miss him. Have a great retirement!

Since there are no physical issues (apparently) with him, I just wonder why Fipke never considered a trainer switch. I like Barclay Tagg as much as the next person, but sometimes horses just don’t perform (for whatever reason) their best for a trainer. Maybe then I would have given up on him too; it just seems like that’s what Tagg has done.
Good point… and I wouldn’t have been surprised to see ToE turn in a great race mid-summer. He really was odd like that.
I thought of you when I read the news yesterday. I had a crush on him his two-year-old summer at Saratoga, and then, like many others, went off him over the winter. You were rewarded for your fidelity…and to me, he’ll always be “your” horse…even though he caused you to nearly brain someone with your phone on Wood day ‘08!
The most luck I ever had at the track was when my brick of a phone didn’t seriously injure anyone when it flew over the rail during the Wood!
Thanks for the feature on Tale Of Ekati. I always liked him as well and kept thinking he was going to finally have his *aha* moment and really break out into being a winner with more consistent results. At this point, it’s good that he retires sound so I wish him the best. Also, love that photo!
You’re welcome! I was hoping he’d have that “aha moment” too… oh well.
I saw someone on Twitter mention that Imperial Council was their new Tale of Ekati, lol!
I was expecting Tale of Ekati to run his race in the Weschester Handicap, I thought back at a one turn mile he would give that performance we had all been waiting for, but he just did not show.
