Tough Day to be a Stallion

Rachel Alexandra and Calvin Borel winning the Preakness (wendyu)
Congrats to Rachel Alexandra and her connections and a particularly big THANK YOU to Jess Jackson.
Congrats to Mine That Bird and his connections as well, nice to see them prove that his Derby win was not a fluke… poor stallions.
Steve Crist sums it up nicely:
Good for her and good for him. Rachel Alexandra and Mine That Bird made the unprecedented Preakness showdown between an Oaks and Derby winner live up to and exceed all expectations with a pair of excellent performances and a clean, straightforward horse race.
I’m usually cranky about so-called feelgood stories, but it’s hard not to feel good about this one. Rachel Alexandra is obviously something special, and she got the historic job done over a likeable gelding who vindicated his shocking Derby victory with another strong effort.
And celebrating abounds all over the twitterverse… there was even a rainbow in Baltimore!
If I may quote myself on the outcome…
I had the tri and the teeny tiny P4 but that pales in comparison to how exciting that race was and how FABULOUS the outcome was
Ok, I think I hear my alarm clock…

would have been happier to see MTB nail her at the wire. Would be great to see a rematch in the Belmont, but, i dont think we will see RA for a little while…
that scenario would have been ok with me but I like this one better.
I suspect you’re right re: the Belmont. I’d love to see her in the Alabama, Jockey Club and BC Classic. It would be great if Zenyatta was also in the JCGC and/or the BC Classic. can’t wait to see that showdown! And I hope Stardom Bound returns to form in the fall as well.
congrats on the tri. I had 13 with 3 with 2 - RATS!!!
I also had a 13 with 3 with 10 ticket; MTB got in the way on that one. I should have included MTB everywhere. I had the exacta, so it wasn’t a total loss.. But a $200 trifecta for those three is free money as far as I am concerned. Nice job!
I’m with nature boy.
Sure the finish was 1-2 in favor of The Kentucky Oaks winner,
the fact that Mine That Bird did not come up to challenge at anytime during the stretch meant a bit less to me than,
when Rags to Riches showed Curlin how it was done in the Belmont Stakes.
Both are great gals though, and I’m hoping strong showing against males will not knock Rachel down for the rest of the year. The Eastern based sophomores, as strong as it was earlier, should continue to be bolstered with new shooters appearing in the solid Belmont Stakes lineup.
The fun is just beginning.
Congrats on tri and P4—On the day, overall?
Me lose.
It was only a $1 tri with ALL on the bottom but I had Musket Man in the second position too. I played some bigger tris with the first two and Big Drama/Friesan Fire.
Overall ever so slightly up on the day… which is WAAAAAY better than I did on Derby day. Way.
Way.
way…
