While waiting for my lunch to arrive on such a winter’s day (ok, such a rainy day), I noticed that The Green Monkey posted a 5F 1 min flat bullet at Hollywood Park. Perhaps the all weather track will suit him.

Broodmares commanded top dollar during the auctions of the past few days while stallion prospects didn’t fare so well.
Coolmore and Darley were at it again Green Monkey style, this time over 5yo mare Playful Act. Darley won this round spending $10.5 million [DRF].
As it turns out, the Octave Drama I mentioned yesterday was also none other than Coolmore vs Darley. Coolmore “angrily” insisted that they had won the $4 million bid but the bid spotters didn’t spot them. Does that sort of thing ever happen at Christie’s or Sotheby’s?
Ferguson, representing Maktoum, signed the ticket for $4 millon after lively bidding that also involved Coolmore Stud and the Ran-Jan Stable of Bob Naify and Jan Vanderbos. But Coolmore’s team, including principal John Magnier and regular bidding representative Demi O’Byrne, angrily protested the sale, saying they had believed they had made the winning $4 million bid.

(No Ratings Yet) Loading ...I would have played today’s Pick 6 anyway (I’m in training!) but I played it a little more aggressively than normal. Usually I would single most of the races with one or two additional picks thrown in as a Pick 6 can get kinda pricey. Today I went with 2 picks for each race.
5th: #8 Peleliu & #3 Sew Slippery
6th: #7 Dragon Fi & #6 Pick Six
7th: #4 Strummer & #1 Acclimate
8th: #2 Stormy Kiss & #6 Trouble Maker
9th: #5 Calla Lily & #8 Miracle Moment
10th: #3 Melissa Jo & #7 Tarazine
I’ll add few more picks to my Pick 4 bets but for now I must turn my attention to a freshly delivered burrito.
As a follow up, Roi Maudit killed in the 3rd at Belmont, sitting just off the pace. He came 3 wide and and drew away in the stretch to win by 6! It took him 6 tries to break his maiden but it seems that he’s on his way now. Also interesting is that Johnny V rode him this time. The more I think about it the more I’d like to see another jock on the Monkey.

(No Ratings Yet) Loading ...As I’m preparing to handicap tomorrow’s 5th-10th at Belmont (read procrastinating), I noticed that Roi Maudit is the morning line favorite in tomorrow’s 3rd, a 6F $55K allowance.
Monkey scrutinizers and fans will remember Roi Maudit as the winner of the Monkey’s first race. That should make a good trivia question some day.
