Commenting is the New Posting

I’ve been elsewhere the past few days! Belmont (Aint No Joke)

My lack of posting is due, in part, to a hectic week which includes working on this so it can be ready by July 1. So far, so good!

In lieu of posting I’ve been doing a lot of commenting… mostly on the extremely active post regarding Jeremy Rose’s suspension. It’s a great, lively, civil conversation mostly (at this point) centered around how to determine if a suspension is excessive. One person’s excessive is another person’s just right is yet another person’s not enough. In my mind this begs for national standards around ALL suspensions.

Speaking of which, Val has a great post (that of course I commented on, because that’s all I do now) about the double standards in the suspensions of Asmussen and Dutrow. She also discusses that national standards are needed in drug suspensions.

Jessica posts the news of Suffolk’s new zero tolerance on slaughter (yep, I commented there too) and points to a related post that alludes to a more holistic view being needed to actually solve the problem as opposed to just applying a band-aid. (Note - I agree that Rose’s suspension is a band-aid for addressing issues around the whip, there needs to be better rules to actually address the overall problem).

And, in another great post that I commented on, Teresa uncovers a bit of of a historical precedence for the protest of sexism in the pursuit of racing marketing! Go sign the petition!

Just Like Our Old Friend…

Evening Attire away in his usual lingering fashion in the Brooklyn (Sarah K. Andrew)

I take my sweet time out of the gate (I’m still handicapping)!

I’ll post my picks tomorrow before I head out.

Even If

there was no stud deal, this is probably still true:

Iavarone said May 14 he believes there is no chance Big Brown will race as a 4-year-old

Not with those feet… sigh.

Time to Get to Work!

(spin979)

I’m rolling up my sleeves and getting ready to settle into some handicapping, which probably means I’ll be posting quite a bit tonight!
The minute I don’t check in around ye olde internet a ton of stuff happens! Here’s a sample of the stuff I’ve cruised through as I gear up to get to down to business.

Who Knew?

Churchill Downs (blake seely)

ESPN2 has the oaks under card! I had no idea, mind you, I can only wager on the Oaks online.

The weather is hideous at Churchill! I missed the Louisville Stakes, but they replayed the stretch run which featured winner Ginger Punch hopping over a puddle… impressive!

I didn’t handicap the Oaks (or much of anything yet), but I’ll be placing a little sloppy track exacta of Bsharpsonata & Little Belle.

New Poll, Biggest Surprise as Derby Winner

As I’ve been looking over everyone more closely I’ve been fining myself thinking “that would be a surprise”… which begs the question, who do you think would be the BIGGEST surprise as Derby winner?

In the last poll, 20 thought it was fair to cross enter Eight Belles while 11 of you thought it was not. Of those in the “fair” camp, it was split down the middle 10/10 between “yes she can” and “no she can’t”.

Of the 11 in the “unfair” camp, 5 of you couldn’t blame them for doing it!

Next stop, race replays…

And Now We Know What’s Wrong with Dubai

I feel crusty when I watch TV during the day, unless of course it’s the OTB channel, but I took a break from procrastinating to watch the Hennegan Brothers on Martha Stewart. I must say that there were the perfect foil for Martha!

The segment had them literally making a Derby pie with Martha, chatting about the film, the Derby in general and the importance of home made pie crust (which is what they lack in Dubai… link to segment when it’s available). If you missed it or didn’t DVR it, check for a re-run, you won’t be sorry!

Set Down for the Drive

With the work behind me, the store is launched, the site is updated and a freshly delivered pizza awaiting me, I’m going to do a little prep work tonight and spend the day handicapping tomorrow for Saturday’s Churchill card.

And you know what that mean, lots of procrastination posts!

Greetings from Procrastination Central

It was well reported today that there has been confirmation from the scientific community that not only are horses intelligent, but that they also have math skills.

There was also confirmation from wise a$$ community that horses also possess other skills.

In other news, here’s an item that suggests there are unexplored alternative methods for increasing handle. Perhaps a more adult version of Frank’s Energy Bar is in order?
